Terms

In the interests of ensuring that our clients know exactly what they will be getting from us, we include an overview of our terms and conditions here.

Proofreading

  1. Our proofreading service includes corrections to errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and capitalisation. We are also happy to suggest changes to the tone or register of your document, where this is inappropriate for the intended audience or reader(s).
  2. On occasion, we will reword awkwardly phrased sentences or substitute more appropriate wording, but altering anything other than errors is not technically ‘proofreading’ and we are therefore not obliged to do this.
  3. The completed assignment will be returned to you in two forms: one showing all our changes in red and blue (using Microsoft Word’s ‘Track Changes’ facility) and another with all the changes inputted.
  4. We will never reprint either your original document or the proofread copy elsewhere without your permission.
  5. Our proofreading service is charged at 1p per word of the original document. Upon accepting the assignment, we will confirm the number of words in this document and inform you of how much the service will cost. This is a fixed price.
  6. New clients will be required to submit full payment upfront.
  7. We will be available for phone, email or instant message communication throughout the working week, and we will be happy to arrange face-to-face meetings with you during the course of our working together.

Copyediting

  1. Our copyediting service includes both proofreading and creative rewording of the text to ensure it best suits its intended audience and function. We are able to reduce the word count, at your request, and suggest changes to vocabulary, structure and tone.
  2. On occasion, we may drastically reword or restructure certain sections of the document, but a major overhaul of the entire piece would constitute ‘rewriting’ and we are therefore not obliged to do this.
  3. The completed assignment will be returned to you in two forms: one showing all our changes in red and blue (using Microsoft Word’s ‘Track changes’ facility) and another with all the changes inputted.
  4. We will never reprint either your original document or the proofread copy elsewhere without your permission.
  5. Our copyediting service is charged at 2p per word of the original document.

Rewriting

  1. Our rewriting service consists of a major overhaul of the document to ensure it best suits its intended audience and function. We are able to reduce or increase the word count, at your request, or entirely rewrite a document so that it would be unrecognisable as a version of the original to both search engines and human readers.
  2. When an entirely new version of the copy is required, we use an online duplicate content checker, and we are happy to use the version of the client’s choice.
  3. We will never reprint either your original document or the proofread copy elsewhere without your permission.
  4. Our rewriting service is charged at 3p per word of the original document. Upon accepting the assignment, we will confirm the number of words in this document and inform you of how much the service will cost. This is a fixed price.
  5. New clients will be required to submit full payment upfront.
  6. Should research or secondary reading be required in order to rewrite your document, you will be informed of this at the beginning of the project and this service will be charged separately.
  7. Any reasonable* amendments that you request will be carried out in a timely manner and at no extra charge.
  8. *’Reasonable amendments’ are those changes that would mean your finished copy was better suited the brief we were given at the beginning of the project. Unreasonable amendments (those that we are not obliged to complete) are those that extend, reduce or otherwise alter the original brief on which your quote was based. Upon acceptance of our quote, you will receive a PDF copy of the agreed brief. These terms will be fixed once work has begun and any changes will incur extra charges.
  9. Our rewriters are all professional copywriters with at least two years’ experience in the industry.
  10. We will be available for phone, email or instant message communication throughout the working week, and we will be happy to arrange face-to-face meetings with you during the course of our working together.

  2. Confidentiality is absolutely assured, all your work will be deleted from our files after completion of the project and we will keep no records of any passwords or login information that you have given us.
  3. Our rates are calculated on an hourly basis, but we will agree a price with you at the start of the project and this is the price you will pay – regardless of whether this estimation was inaccurate.
  4. New clients will be required to submit full payment upfront.
  5. At your request, text content can be proofread prior to its being uploaded to your site. For text of up to 2,000 words, this will be at no extra cost; for more text than this, proofreading will be charged at our standard rate.
  6. Any reasonable* amendments that you request will be carried out in a timely manner and at no extra charge.
  7. *’Reasonable amendments’ are those changes that would mean your finished copy was better suited the brief we were given at the beginning of the project. Student Services

All the terms and conditions given above apply equally to these services when provided for student clients. In addition, we promise that only the Decorus Lacuna manager and your writer will ever see your work, and it will be deleted from our records on completion of the project.
