Proofreading

  1. My proofreading service includes corrections to errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and capitalisation. I am also happy to suggest changes to the tone or register of your document, where this is inappropriate for the intended audience or reader(s).
  2. On occasion, I will reword awkward sentences or substitute more appropriate wording, but altering anything other than errors is not technically ‘proofreading’ and I am therefore not obliged to do this.
  3. I will use Microsoft Word’s ‘track changes’ so you can easily check my changes.
  4. I will never reprint either your document (the original or the proofread copy) elsewhere without your permission.
  5. My proofreading service is charged at 1p per word of the original document. Upon accepting the assignment, I will confirm the number of words in the document and inform you of how much the service will cost.
  6. ‘Self-funded’ clients are required to submit full payment upfront. If a university is paying for the service, you will need to send a PO number from the university before I can begin work.
  7. I will be available for phone, email, or instant message communication throughout the working week.

Copyediting

  1. My copyediting service includes both proofreading and creative rewording of the text to ensure it best suits its intended audience and function. I am able to reduce the word count, at your request, and suggest changes to vocabulary, structure, and tone.
  2. On occasion, I may reword or restructure certain sections of the document. However, a major overhaul of the entire piece would constitute ‘rewriting’, so this is not appropriate for academic work.
  3. I will use Microsoft Word’s ‘track changes’ so you can easily check my changes.
  4. I will never reprint either your document (the original or the edited copy) elsewhere without your permission.
  5. My copyediting service is charged at 2p per word of the original document. Upon accepting the assignment, I will confirm the number of words in the document and inform you of how much the service will cost.
